Off for Halloween

Halloween is rapidly approaching and that means I'm going to have to transform disappear for a few days. I'm going to be making mischief pretty busy from now through the run up to my favourite night of the year, so apologies. No rest for wicked and all that.

Here's an advance Happy Halloween! I'll catch you all later. Be bad good...

Teehee, no tricks for you then! I freely admit that I do regress to childhood at Halloween...

Actually it amuses me you say about adventures, because I've just come from one... I just got home from an all night roleplaying adventure, out playacting/dressing up/swordfighting, with some LARP (Live Action Roleplay) Society friends. Phew, tiring! But it was a beautiful night and we saw some fabulous shooting stars. Very magical.

I hope everybody is having as great a Halloween weekend as I am! I'll be back once I've slept it off!

Being a professional grumpy old man, I turn the lights off and hide on Halloween - can't see why I should be subject to a shakedown by local teens I've never seen before in my life. And you do not look at all well in your current avatar.

I know a whole gang of LARPers - loads of them in Leeds in particular. I got 'banned' because I couldn't take it sufficiently seriously....

Hi Martine, Seeing a different side to you. Hallowe'en is massive out here in Prague. Bit of a shock for the stag dos to find themselves surrounded by people dresses as ghouls and monsters.

Martine, I would like to have seen those shooting stars.

Croydonian, stop being so grumpy.

Pragetory, I shall look forward to reading about the Czech version of Halloween on your site. I did experience it once in the States and that was, as they say, "awesome"!

Well, I have the sweets ready, two pumpkins ready for the front porch, though they tend to get nicked by the end of the night, and tonight I shall be inundated by kids from the neighbourhood wanting sweeties. If I ask any of them for a trick instead, they look all shocked. I shall miss it when my kids are too old to join in too, it is a tradition, and the kids only go to houses where they know people or see a lighted pumpkin so they know they will be made welcome.

Hehe, to each their own I suppose. I have sweets ready and they're only going to kids in cute little costumes.

'Tis the season. Don't worry, I'm sure I'll be feeling a lot better by tomorrow.

It wasn't the Fools and Heroes Leeds Branch was it? I've adventured with them sometimes - but they're always out for a laugh so I can't imagine anybody being banned. Heck NONE of us take it seriously!! It's just an excuse to act like kids, run around hitting each other with latex weaponry and then go hang out at the pub afterwards.

Good point! Though I'd think it would just enhance the fun atmosphere of the evening.

I didn't realise Halloween is big in Prague (I always just immediately think of the US when naming places who really go for celebrating it). Would be great to see that for myself some day. We don't seem to go to too much effort over here, which is a shame.

Yes that'll be a bit nostalgic.

Sounds like you ensure your kids do it right - safety is paramount of course, and so long as everybody plays safe Halloween can be a marvellous, memorable night for the little ones. I'm amazed by how many people don't let their kids out for some reason or another, so I'm glad to hear you let them have some fun!

Martine, I don't think so. This lot are a bit po faced about it all, and tend to go in for hugely complicated plots and sub plots and bashes that go on for entire weekends with folk from London, Cambridge etc. Although there is a lot of drinking too...

Martine, it's fantastic how you've updated the graphics for your site for this special time of year!

Thanks Snafu! I'm hoping to put up a seasonal variation for all of the big ones....
